As the sunshine radiated across the MCG on a winter’s afternoon, thousands gathered in the middle of the ground to form the iconic Pink Lady silhouette – a powerful visual recreated for the first time since 2018 as part of Breast Cancer Network Australia’s (BCNA) major fundraising event, the Field of Women.
This event helps pay tribute to those diagnosed with breast cancer and aims to raise more awareness, with BCNA now in its 25th year of operation. From beanies to ponchos, the colourful turnout represented the extent of support for the cause, while also providing a confronting reminder that in the five years since the last Field of Women was held, the number of Australians diagnosed with breast cancer has significantly grown.
The event saw incredible displays of cohesion from supporters of both football teams, who along with MCG event staff, wore a pink item to consolidate their support.
An important reminder that football teams aside, the community will always unite for a worthy cause.
The Melbourne Cricket Club is proud to support the efforts of BCNA, with the MCG having hosted the Pink Lady Match in accordance with the Melbourne Football Club since 2005.
