Come and see the ‘G this September

Thursday, September 08, 2022

Sporting fans now have the opportunity to soak up more of the finals buzz in September with MCG Tours to run with selected extended hours - and for longer - as the ‘G continues to welcome back fans for finals football.

MCG Tours are led by a dedicated group of volunteers who bring Australia’s greatest sporting stories to life through their passionate storytelling for more than 150,000 visitors from all over the world each year.

The volunteers ensure that visitors have an unforgettable experience going behind the scenes of the ‘G, further supported by the return of a 75 minute duration having been cut down to 60 minutes due to COVID protocols.

There are currently 198 MCG Tour guides who highlight the sporting and cultural history of the venue with tour highlights including the MCC Long Room, the MCG Tapestry, walking through the player Change Rooms and along the boundary of the arena.

Former Richmond legend and the player who has kicked the most goals at the MCG, Matthew Richardson, and Melbourne AFLW captain Daisy Pearce recently had the opportunity to take an MCG Tour and they encourage fans to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes to soak up the rich history of the beloved ground that has provided countless memories for sporting fans both young and old.

During Grand Final Week the tours will run with selected extended hours, ensuring nobody misses their chance to see the ‘G in the lead-up to the return of the AFL Grand Final.

The ‘G truly is a treasured place to be all year round – but there’s no better place to be in September.
