The MCG is set for extra Big Bash League (BBL) action, with an exciting double-header now in-place for Monday January 10.
The finals-bound Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder will play in the additional match, newly re-scheduled for 2.10pm on Monday January 10. Sitting in fifth and third on the BBL|11 ladder, the additional match will add further fireworks to an action-packed day at the MCG, headlined by dual BBL|11 centurion and leading run scorer, Ben McDermott for the Hurricanes. This match will be followed by the original fixture between the Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers, which has been pushed back to a 7.15pm start.
The additional match comes as Cricket Australia looks to safeguard the season in the face of rising COVID-19 cases around the country.
Cricket Australia’s General Manager of Big Bash Leagues, Alastair Dobson said that the league needs to remain flexible in the face of the current COVID-19 challenges.
“The past week has thrown many COVID-related challenges the Big Bash’s way, but throughout we have remained steadfast in our resolve to safely and successfully complete the season.
“These changes are designed to help the League and Clubs deliver on this, while also reducing risks to players, support staff and the matches themselves. Having our players based in one state provides significantly greater flexibility to manage any further impacts of COVID-19.
“We thank everyone who continues to work so hard behind the scenes to safely deliver the competition including all players, League and Club staff, match officials, governments, broadcasters, partners, and venues.”
Cricket fans will be able to enjoy double the action with their ticket – which permits access to both matches at the MCG on the Monday. Tickets are currently available for all upcoming BBL matches at the MCG via Ticketek.
Those who have already purchased tickets to the Melbourne Stars v Adelaide Strikers match and can no longer make the new start time can apply for a refund through Ticketek.
