The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC), managers of the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), welcomes the AFL’s announcement of the dates and times for Sir Doug Nicholls Round which will be held across Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2022 AFL Premiership Season.
Sir Doug Nicholls Round coincides with National Reconciliation Week which runs from Friday, May 27 to Friday, June 3.The MCG welcomes back the Dreamtime at the ‘G blockbuster fixture in Round 10 at 7.30pm AEST on Saturday May 21, with the iconic match between Richmond and Essendon returning to the venue for the first time since 2019.
The MCG will then host two fixtures in Round 11.
Melbourne will take on Fremantle at 4.35pm AEST on Saturday May 28, while traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton will take centre stage of Sunday afternoon football. That match to be played at 3.20pm AEST on Sunday May 29.
AFL Executive General Manager of Finance, Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld outlined the significance of the 2022 AFL Sir Doug Nicholls Round.
“Over Rounds 10 and 11, we recognise Sir Doug Nicholls and the impact he had on our great game, and we celebrate the contribution of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players past and present,” Mr Auld said.
“It’s great to see the Dreamtime at the ‘G returning to the MCG in 2022 after the NT and WA did extraordinary jobs of hosting the match the last two seasons.”
Ticket on-sale dates and timings for matches during Rounds 10 and 11 will be communicated in due course.
The AFL advises it aims to release the next block of fixtures (greater than two rounds) after Round 6 of the AFL to ensure supporters can plan ahead.
