The MCG lit up in red this week as a powerful statement of support for Special Olympics Australia and people with intellectual disabilities to celebrate Global Week of Inclusion.
All over the world Special Olympics is igniting change through sparks of inclusion. This month, Special Olympics are excited to help turn these sparks into a flame during Global Week of Inclusion.Global Week of Inclusion is an important occasion to demonstrate tolerance, respect and difference. Inclusion is all about togetherness. In celebrating all our abilities, we create something more beautiful and powerful in the collective than we could alone.
By simply choosing to include people with intellectual disabilities, we are improving their lives.
Choosing to include them in sport and physical activity programs profoundly affects their lives in positive ways, most notably in building self-confidence, friendships and self-esteem.
The Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) is a Major Partner of Special Olympics Australia.
MCC CEO Stuart Fox encourages members and fans to sign Special Olympics’ Inclusion Pledge and commit to a world of togetherness of inclusion.
“Special Olympics Australia is part of a global inclusion movement using sport, health, education and leadership programs every day to end discrimination against and empower people with intellectual disabilities,” Stuart said.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Special Olympics Australia to raise the profile of sporting opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities and help break down the barriers to improving health outcomes for one of Australia’s most marginalised communities.
