Things to do

Thank you to everyone who shared their most memorable MCG moment with us.

We received more than 3500 entries - everything from the great MCG sporting and event moments, sharing these with loved ones or complete strangers, to the feeling of that first MCG experience and all sorts of weird and wonderful personal memories in between.

The range of entries showed that the MCG has and continues to create magical moments, filled with a range of emotions, experiences and feelings like no other. MCG – nothing can match it.

Winner

There were so many great memories it was hard to pick a winner.

Congratulations to Gina Donovan, who was judged as the best entry. She nominated the 2015 BCNA Pink Lady event as her moment. Gina captured her feelings of relief, inspiration, hope and how the MCG unexpectedly helped her realise that she was not alone in the fight. It was to us memorable and unmatchable.

Gina has won the Ultimate MCG Experience, including two tickets to the 2015 Toyota AFL Grand Final, 2015 Boxing Day Test and a VIP MCG tour, including a private guided tour, 10-minute kick-to-kick on the MCG, a visit to the MCG scoreboard roof, National Sports Museum entry and lunch in the Hugh Trumble Cafe.

Second Prize winners

Congratulations also to our runners up, who each receive a double pass for a VIP MCG Tour. A summary of their entries are provided

Sonali Le Brocque
– Attending the 1981 Boxing Day Test as a child with his serious dad. Lillee gets Viv Richards with the last ball of the day, turning his sensible father into a normal fan, which she liked.

There were a number of entries that referred to Shane Warne’s 700th Test wicket on Boxing Day in 2006 as their moment, but we couldn’t split it between Anthony Bullock and Aaron Dowdell for their stories:
It still ‘burns’ Anthony Dowdell that he was in the toilet at the MCG during this moment, whilst Anthony Bullock’s mate missed a high five and celebrations with his mates also due to a being in the toilet....and has never lived it down.

Hugh Jellie – 2006 Commonwealth Games women’s marathon, Kerryn McCann v Helen Cherono Koskei - the roar of the crowd when they enter the stadium. To him, “the result didn’t even matter”.

Phil Curran - January 18, 1996 at the Australia V Sri Lanka ODI spotting his gorgeous wife of 15 years for the first time from across the crowd! An MCG romance.
